Breedables Weekly News Roundup for Week 10th to 17th November [Updated]

by PacificBlue on November 17, 2009

Another exciting week on the Breedables front with some breedable creators and their animals appearing on The Late Show, and more beta testers being added for Hunny Bunny.Tow new updates also – for Petable Turtles and the open beta for Ozimals bunnies. And some less than stellar news towards IP theft and security exploits. It’s been a busy week for the Breedable SL world.

Ozimals Bunnies

Late Show Interview

Ozimals’ Candy Cerveau and Malkavyn Eldritch, and Grim Hathor and Matthew Anthony of Petables Turtles were interviewed on the Late Show with Numbers Rossini.

Content Theft of Ozimals Bunnies

Late this last week, the SL world started discussing rumours that Ozimals bunnies had been content ripped, including the scripts. Although the thieves have been DMCA-ed and their store shut down, the topic remains in discussion on SLUniverse and confirmed on Ozimal’s creator, Candy Cerveau’s plurk. Candy’s plurk also intimates that the thieves had not only stolen the Ozimals designs and scripts to rebrand them, but they had announced a beta on them, and also mashed the animals in with sionLab’s medicine and transport boxes.

[Update] 18th November.(although this strictly should be included in this coming week’s roundup, because this post and the official information just released pertains to events which happened a few days ago, and have been already finalised (reported above), I’m simply adding this as an update to this brief post above.

Ozimals responded to make an official statement towards this content theft via a notecard to the in-world group, and you can also find this on their blog. The content (sculpts and structure of the beta) were stolen, as per the Plurk item mentioned above, and the shop was shut down as suggested here. Scripts were not taken as per the discussions on the forum. However the response confirms that content was taken (sculpts and textures) from an old beta version, as was Intellectual property on the structure of the Ozimals bunnies. Additionally the response confirms that some of sionLab’s product ideas were included, as was some other ears onto the ripped bunnies to attempt to make them look slightly different. I personally haven’t looked at that forum item since Monday when a message was sent out from an in-world farming group, but the Ozimals official response should be good enough to quash any further rumours which may be circling around.

Ozimals has thanked those who have watched and reported this as it happened and was cleaned up – which was several days ago at this point. There were apparently also rumours towards Ozimals bunnies being sold, which this blog did not report on because technically that’s not possible as the open beta bunnies are non-transfer anyway. Along these lines, once the official release is made, Ozimals bunnies will be transferable naturally, but there will also be a simple method for authentication of the Ozimals product.

From our own perspective, something very small of interest is a term coined on the blog post at least which starts with the words – ‘Hello Ozmites’  We hadn’t noticed this used beforehand, but as a collective term for a fanbase, it’s quite a good one.

TCD Bunny Home Contest

During the week The Chicken Diaries blog ran a little comment competition to give away a veLveteen bunny home produced exclusively for open beta of Ozimals bunnies. The post was responded to by six commenters, and a random winner drawn. Commenter No 3 of the comments, Stephanie Constantine was drawn, and received her copy of the Bunnie Garden Hideaway over the weekend.

First Elite Bunnies won

Over Sunday – Monday Ozimals announced a special hunt prize via Silent Sparrow’s Limited Edition Hunt. In the Silent Sparrow hunt, if somebody found and bought one special white squirrel they would receive a special breeder’s pack which included the first Ozimals Elite bunny, a bunny designed by Hyasynth of Silent Sparrow. Four waves of one special white squirrel were released for four lucky winners over the last two nights.

Open Beta P4V1.2

Monday midnight saw the cindarella poofing of old open beta bunnies, in preparation for the delivery of Open Beta version P4V1.2  bunnies Tuesday. This version has been optimised towards messaging, with some bug fixes, and boasts a happier time for homestead owners like myself. It was, in some small part tested on The Chicken Diaries homestead whilst being coded by Neo and Malk, so we’re looking forward to birthing our latest optimised bunnies.

Oh wow, and taking myself out of journalistic mode for a second – the new bunnies can be attached – to sit on your head! I have no idea why that appeals to me so much.

New Beta Testers

Wednesday saw the announcement of a new series of beta tests for the HB bunnies, and with the promise that there will be five new people added to beta testing with each progressive step. If you’re signed up to the in-world update group, you have a chance of being drawn for beta testing.

Design Winners

Thursday an announcement on the HB blog was made for the winners of the design competition – to design the eggcradle and carrycage for HunnyBunny bunnies.

Pricing List Released

Friday HunnyBunny released the pricing list on their blog also. The list looks pretty much in tangent with the pricing found in other breedables.

Gifts for Renters at Bunnies

Over Monday the owner of The Farm has hinted that HunnyBunny has made a promise of a special gift for those renting stores and land on The Bunnies SIM, which is a market and SIM dedicated exclusively to HunnyBunny and supporting products.

Petables Turtles

Late Show Interview

The Late Show interview mentioned above included Matthew Anthony and Grim Hathor showing off some of their turtles.

Affiliate Vendors

On Thursday Petables was forced to take the affiliate vendors offline due to some scamming exploits of some SL security problems. (Jira SVC-595 is relevant). This left turtle owners needing to purchase food and accessories directly from the Petables store in-world, until new affiliate vendors were released the next day.

New Points Item –Elixer of Life

Friday saw the Turtle Trader reach a target of turtles traded in, and the release of a new points item – the Petable Turtles Elixer. This product will bring a dead turtle back to life, provided you have the body.

Update – V 01.03.02

Sunday Petable Turtles updated to release version 01.03.02 – no drastic changes with this update, just bug fixes. The update worked normally with an updater available through the hud (or sent out via the Petable Turtles Chat group) and turtles were updated from the server over a 48 hour period. The update went exceedingly well.

As a note – and I didn’t realise this until receiving a notice from a turtle market – when a turtle updates, it takes off the ‘for sale’ tag, so those selling turtles through markets etc would need to go back to put these up for sale again, and to check that turtles have been updated.

sionLabs and sionChickens

Last week again saw no news from the sionLabs front. On the good side, our own six chickens continue to cluck away and produce copious eggs in a day.
