With Easter coming up fast, there’s no getting away from the anticipation felt in many enthusiast’s minds. What celebrations may each Breedable brand surprise us with? Petable Easter celebrations are already well at hand, whilst others have some announcements and Easter treats coming. We also had a sheep upgrade – although so far this has not been announced in English. And at The Chicken Diaries we discovered two new breedable growing plant brands – with more to come over the next week.

Breedables (General)

General News

It’s been very quiet on the Breedable front this last week, with no great announcements. During this last week, the Chicken Diaries Team investigated several growing and/or breeding plant systems within Second Life, and PacificBlack became a rather proud and addicted turtle owner.

The Farm – Auctions and Members

Last Friday, the Farm held it’s first of a series of weekly Ozimals bunny voice auctions, held at 4pm SLT. These auctions are hosted in voice by Dakota Delicioso.

During this first auction several new rare bunny furs were put up for auction, including a just bred Creme d’Argent, a Blanc de Hotot and a bunny with the newly discovered eye colour of Citrine. The first auction raised L$294,000 for those lucky enough to have bred these and other wanted bunnies.

The Farm Ltd also celebrated hitting 600 members in the group on Monday.

RFL of SL Ozimals Auctions and Nest Sales

With all auction and nest sales going towards RFL, there is now a RFL team who have Ozimals bunnies and nests for auction and sales also.

Breeding Plant Additions

This last week at The Chicken Diaries has seen some explorations of some more of the breedable plants we can now play with in SL. Previously we’ve been big fans of PlantPets, but this last week we added two more breeding plants to our estate – Seid Mushrooms and XS Cactus.

Belle Belle does Bunny Pens

The cuteness of Ozimals bunnies can not be denyed, especially when you notice that all the top furnishing designers have created some designer pens for their own pets, then brought these out onto the market. Belle Belle is the latest of these, having created a number of high fashion bunny pens to house some Ozimals within.

Coming Up

This next week, TCD intend providing a couple more reviews on growing or breeding plants.

HunnyBunny Orphanage

CSRs for HunnyBunny, Jennyl Jameson and Jabb3r Panhandle have opened an official HunnyBunny orphanage. You can drop off unwanted boxed eggs and live bunnies and set these for sale at L$0.

SLurl : HunnyBunny Orphanage on HunnyBunny

Easter Bunnies

HunnyBunny celebrate Easter with a pair of special chocolate bunnies. These will be available over only a week, and once old enough to breed, will produce special elite cottontail offspring with coloured eggs.

HB Sheep [Updated]

An hour after the first publication of this post, HunnyBunny announced that HB Sheep are going on hold, due to the fact that there are already sheep on the grid. Another animal is already in mind – but will not be announced until within a closed beta, understandably. The Chicken Diaries team wishes Hunny Larimore and team all the best in creating that new animal, and we already have two barn stalls assigned out ready for whatever it is (unless it’s a dragon or elephant or something else big, that is).

Meanwhile Hunny suggests that the HB sheep may be released at a later date, but not towards any current schedule that some may be aware of. Further investigations are being made, and we would suggest you read the HunnyBunny blog post for more details.

New Fur and Eye Colour

Over the last week the Ozimals in-world groups have discussed the discovery of one new fur and a new eye colour, which may have come from the new starter bunnies and their breedings. The fur – Argent – Creme d’Argent, and the eye colour is Citrine. There is a picture of the new eye colour up on the Wyrmwood gallery, but not yet of the new fur.

The previous ‘new’ furs – Silver Fox and Blanc de Hotot remain extremely rare also.

The first citrine, reportedly born to Lily Fizz, plus a Silver Fox actually went up for auction at the new Auctions held at 4pm SL Time at The Farm. As did a Creme d’Argent.

1.1 Expired Nests Traded In for BunnyBury Coins

1.1 Nest Redemption

Over the last weekend the first interim measure to pave the way to the BunnyBury trade-in program was made. All those with 1.1 version nests (the expiry nests) had two twelve hour periods to send our unwanted nests into a particular avatar, Totos Doghouse.

The instructional notecard which came with this news told us how to setup a folder to hold these nests (35 nests per folder) to send in to the profile of this avatar. Only 1.1 expiry nests were to be included, and the totals would be added up and provided as BB coins for when the full programme is later released.

Other times and dates for trading in 1.1 nests will later be provided for international timezones, commencing with one already announced for today (Tuesday) – from 8:00 am SLT to 8:00 pm SLT.

Although there is ample instructions in the notecard, Ozimals also provided a forum thread for questions and answers on this trade-in.

BunnyBury Coins and List

The current 1.1 nest redemption scheme will allow for a manual allocation of BB coins to those trading in their nests. These coins will then be used as payment for certain rewards available through BunnyBury. In an announcement through group (but not yet on the blog) today, it has been suggested that the initial Bunnybury Item list will be released sometime today.

BunnyBury Vault Counter [Updated]

Breaking news – Ozimals has just posted new information on Bunnybury and produced a coin counter. Read the post.

Easter from Ozimals

At the same time as we expect the Bunnybury Item list to be released, Ozimals has also promised to provide information on what is coming up to celebrate Easter. Those two announcements are due later today.

Petable Turtles

Mushroom Accessories

Until the end of March – or this week, Petable has released two new limited edition accessories. These mushrooms celebrate Mario, from the Nintendo video game franchise. There is a limited edition green mushroom and an extra special red mushroom. The red mushroom also gives growth properties, doubling the size of the turtle wearing it.

Glow Egg Magnet and Upcoming Shine Magnet

A new points item was released once the trader got to 100 percent. The Glow Egg Magnet pulls glowy eggs to it, allowing for easier sorting. Further details on the Petable blog.

As the live trader has now passed 50% again, another hint has been released for the next point item – this time a Shine Magnet. This will be rarer than the glow magnet so only available to avatars with a certain level of breeding points accumulated.

Wardrobe Coming

Over the last week, Petable announced that we could now assign more than one accessory to one turtle. Details of the previous accessories worn (which will disappear to make way for your new one put on the turtle) will be kept in the database, available for when the new wardrobe will be released in the future. This wardrobe will be rezzed in-world allowing a turtle to change accessories, or even wear no accessory. The wardrobe is due in the next update – date for this is as yet indetermined.

Turtle Show Discussions

After two meetings to discuss the future of the turtle shows, Petable posted their thoughts and options on a blog post of the 23rd March. These options remain being discussed within the Petable team, with some immediate changes in timings put into place. Before the next show – due April 4th, further decisions will be announced.

Easter Custom Catches at 7Seas Fishing

Petable has four new exclusive 7Seas Fishing custom catches out for this next week only. There are four different easter egg catches to be caught at the 7Seas Fishing lake on the Petable sim.

Easter Egg Hunt – for an Easter turtle egg

Until Sunday Petable is running an Easter egg hunt across their sim. Wear a basket (available from outside the main tent) and search for 23 (out of 28 possible eggs) across the Petable SIM. Collect these and you have completed the task to get a new special turtle release – the Easter turtle. More on this turtle will be released later on this week.

Warning – this hunt is quite tough, and with SL’s normal lag, expect that you might not even see some of the eggs out. Although some people have been successful quite quickly, I have personally witnessed several return to one hunt spot on the Petable sim several times over the course of an hour and a half, and still not find any. (I’m writing this whilst fishing up some of the Easter custom catches).

PinkyPigs

There has been no changes officially within the PinkyPig brand, although through group we have noticed that quite a few pigs have been up for sale, including the one elite or special pig which can be bred – the Love Pig.

PinkyPigs have a lifespan of 90 days, so we will be seeing some of the elderly pigs on the grid dying through age over the next few days or last week.We personally have one that only has five more days to go before death.

At our own little farm, this last week saw the first gem collared pig born.

Pound Puppies

Pound Puppies is officially on hold or suspended, due to the growing absence of the creator. A notification was sent out last week through the PP group in-world by Wolves Teardrop. Although Wolves is holding the Pound Puppy group open in case it ever goes ahead, many people including myself will no doubt drop the group to allow another group slot to be freed up for activity.

We are sad to see Pound Puppies die such a death, after successfully winning a court battle towards the naming rights, and promises of having an interactive breeding dog pet within Second Life.

Schafzucht – Breedable Sheep

Update to Version 1.0

The Breedable sheep I’ve been discussing of late hit some kind of stability issue last week. This was difficult to fathom due to most of the conversation in group being in German, but apparently some Breedable Sheep were dying. On Wednesday a notice was sent out – in german – through the in-world group which interpreted seemed to suggest something about a replacement. However there were earlier discussions about a new version of the sheep being available this coming week.

This new update version arrived Monday with a German announcement through the group. Version 0.93 sheep can now be frozen and taken to the Lavia landmark. Rez these out in front of a black sheep in a column, click the column and your sheep will be replaced with a new Version 1.0 sheep.

At the time of this update announcement, the English support person (see below) was not online, and several hours later into the next day there remains no English language information available on this update and what it contains.

English Support Announced

Friday another german announcement was sent out via group suggesting Nadinia Seid would provide support from now on. Nadinia, who also is the creator of the Seid Mushroom system I have recently reviewed, will provide support for English speakers, whilst Boxi Boxen will provide this for those Germans with sheep.

7Seas Fishing

The Fishiversary 2010 anniversary party has now been confirmed to be on April 16th to 19th.

After such a long wait for the arrival of the 1.2 Update for Ozimals bunnies, I would personally consider this to be a gift unto itself for the week. Update 1.2 was delivered over Monday/Tuesday and for many did not go without some hitches with the food taking some time to update versus the bunnies, and other problems.

The Ozimals support team and creators were kept busy helping out over the day on the groups, but as the grid mapped over, it later became quite quiet and peaceful on the groups, as the updates completed.

This update contained a huge gift in the reversal of the expiry on nests, as well as fixes to matriach and patriach statuses. Rumours abound about many people also getting new elites birthed out since the update.

Full information on this update can be found in the notecard provided with the updater totem – which can be picked up from various parcels in-world. You will also find this update information available via in-world groups. It’s important to read all of this before going through the update, and it is noticable how many people don’t do this, but instead immediately question through the groups.

The update is forced on all Ozimals owners, as the food is updated across the grid via a server update. This means that you may find your food set out has been updated before your bunnies, and the food will give you a message telling you your bunnies are in need of an update as a prompt. For those with multiples of bunnies this meant there were complaints of food chat spam for much of the first day of update, as the bunny update caught up with food, or vice-versa. But the gains, once updated, appear to be well worth that initial effort of managing the update as a bunny owner.

St Patrick’s Day Cabbage Patch Gift

To celebrate St Patrick’s Day, Ozimals gifted bunny owners with a Cabbage Patch. This came with bunny bonus properties regarding less nutritional requirements for the bunnies until Friday 20th March. Once expired, the cabbage patch can make a nice memento or decoration.

Further Easter Ideas, and Staff Named

On Monday another edition of Bunny Bytes newsletter was made public in-world and published to the Ozimals blog. This hints at further ideas coming at Easter, and also gives a list of staff support names for those finding it difficult to know who is actually official staff for Ozimals (like me last week).

Petable Turtles

New Points Turtle?

As the live trader database went over 50% the normal hint towards a points item was released. It appears to be a ‘turtle that loves the rain’ and once available will replace the Winter eggs now available to purchase with points. Therefore Winter turtles will shortly be unavailable as eggs on the grid, so get in quickly to get the remainder of these.

St Patrick’s Day Turtle and Accessories

To celebrate St Patrick’s Petable surprised us all with a completely free special turtle for the day. These are available to pick up from the mainstore, as well as three new St Patrick’s themed accessories, and another celebrating the birthday of Petable Creator, Grim .

Accessories are only available until Thursday, so hurry to get these.

St Patrick’s Custom Catch

Last week saw the arrival of another Petable custom catch at the 7Seas Fishing lake on the Petable SIM called the Paddy Day Parade. This celebrates St Paddy’s Day, of course, and is reasonably easy to catch if you have some patience. It’s only available until tomorrow.

Market in Birthstones

The market in Petable Birthstone eggs and turtles remains high, particularly for the March gemstones. The March aquamarines appear particularly popular possibly due to their pretty blue colourings.

Yesterday somebody was advertising a gold March birthstone egg for L$27K, which makes me ponder how much platinum ones may go for. The silver more common varieties seem to have settled at around the L$7500 mark for lives and turtles.

I have vowed that if I ever do get a platinum in a clutch that given the (to me) exorbitant prices that some people appear willing to pay, then I will auction it off with all proceeds going to RFL. This approach is not entirely new on the grid. Overnight I heard of one avatar, Kamael Xevious, who is auctioning a platinum birthstone for RFL himself.

Due to some cutbacks in time spent in-world and breedable animals, this weekly roundup may not contain all the news from some areas within Breedable and AI pets. If you are aware of any missed, please contact me.

In the meantime, it’s been another big week of update announcements for both Bunny brands, and an actual update and new SIM move for Petable turtles. Other Breedable animal brands have been extremely quiet this last week.

Version 2 of HunnyBunny bunnies is currently being worked on – this involved a complete re-design of the range. Perhaps the biggest anticipated update amongst breedables still to come might be suspected to be that of the 1.2 update with Ozimals which includes the reversing of bunny nest expiry. And for actual excitement this last week, we had Petable Turtles with an update which released 5 new special turtles to come in the future, and turtle accessories which your turtles can wear!

Tip for NEXT Week:

Look out for St Patrick’s Day specials, gifts or announcements from several breedable creators. We already know that a special and extremely exclusive special edition bunny will be available from HunnyBunny at some point around March 16th. I have also witnessed an Ozimals creator hinting that Ozimals may (or may not) have something in the air for St Patrick’s, and there is also a growing community suspicion (which I spoke personally of several weeks ago) that Petable Turtles may have something up their sleeves also.

HunnyBunny Bunnies

HunnyBunny Stops Selling Starter Packs and Sets Minimum Pricing

With the announcement that HunnyBunny was stopping selling starter packs from the main store and vendors – encouraging secondary markets to create their own – also came a minimum price set for the sale of HB eggs or live bunnies. These have been set to not below L$100. Any with vendors HB not complying with this request will risk having these taken away.

Upcoming Update and Special Edition Bunny.

The update which we’ve been told about for some time is still due in the future for HB bunnies. This also works as a reminder that come March 16th the Hunny Bunny St Patteh Bunneh, celebrating St Patrick’s Day, is also due, sporting the new design in Irish green.

In a short announcement on Version 2, now available also on the HB blog, we now know that Version 2 will also feature a re-design of the food and packaging along with the expected bunny redesign.

Some Staff Changes

The avatar created for the creation efforts on HunnyBunny bunnies is named HunnyBunny Popstar. This avatar should not be contacted for anything. If you have problems, contact Hunny Larimore or the CSR team. The avatar called Doc Bunjie which previously allowed the fixing of problematic bunnies will be taking an early retirement.

New Furs and Eyes now Known, and the First Bred Elite!

When the update to 1.1 came out a couple of weeks ago, the promise of a new eye colour and two new furs was made. It’s taken until this last weekend for these to be found via breeding – the new eye colour now available in bunnies bred via the new starter packs is turquoise.

The two new furs have also been now bred – both are actually completely new breeds –

Blanc de Hotot (pronounced Oh-Toe). This bunny is completely white with black eyeliner markings.

Silver Fox (the one bred was a black aphotic)

Finally, an elite Ozimals bunny was naturally born on 6th March to Geniveve Boucher. Now sold on, this bred elite is named Lucky Charm.

Images of both new breeds and the new elite can be found on the image database put together so kindly at Wyrmwood Online.

[Update] After this post was published, Ozimals also put up some wonderful images of the new furs and the elite bunny born over the weekend. You can see these here. The new furs and eyes are called ‘variations’ and have been confirmed as coming from breeding rather than found in starter packs. And there are hints there may be more in the future.

1.2 Update Coming

The update to Version 1.2 has been discussed and announced (see last week’s post) but is still due to be launched as this is written. This update, which reverses the nest retirement feature introduced with Version 1.1, is currently undergoing testing. Candy Cerveau sent out a long notecard on the 7th March announcing the full feature set of this coming update.

Not only will the nest expiry be reversed, but some changes in statistical boosts from matriach/patriach and elder bunny statuses will take place to balance out the breeding cycles of Ozimals a little more. The update will also include further fixes to some problems.

BunnyBury Interim Deposit Program and the Village of Bunnybury

While the Ozimals Creators remain working on the trade-in Bunnybury program they will now offer an interim deposit program allowing the trade in of unwanted nests for coins while the actual rewards program remains under development. An incentive of a 10% coin bonus will be applied to nests and bunnies traded in on deposit. This Deposit database will be made live shortly, with additional information when the time arrives.

The notecard and blog release of information for the 1.2 update included the title of ‘Village of Bunnybury’ but doesn’t make it clear that such a village actually does exist now in-world (although the program is yet to be released). However, pictures of this little village on the Oz sims have recently been released on the Second Life whisperer blog. Whispers advices that you too can find this hidden village via a secret door on the main Ozimals SIM.

New CSR in Training [Update]

This post initially nominated the wrong person as a new trainee CSR, but the comment below doesn’t provide who the new (two) CSRs might be. If you’re after that recognition of who they are I would suggest you consult the Ozimals forums and support site for this information.

Ozimarket Website Opens

In an interesting movement in the markets I noticed an advertisement coming through in-world for a website marketplace and database for the selling of Ozimals Bunnies. The Ozimarket website allows breeders to register and place details on their bunnies or nests for sale. A database allows you to search for the exact bunny you want to purchase, rather than having to read through all the text on bunnies out in in-world markets. Currently there are only a few bunnies up for sale, but the website appears promising if it lives up to it’s search abilities.

Update 01.08.06, New SIM and Accessories

Thursday saw a version update of Petable Turtles to version 01.08.06 via the normal updater mechanism. Get this through your HUD if not updated already.

With this update came the new Accessories functionality. A series of accessories is available for sale on the new Petable SIM. Accessories so far available include hats, an apple, pipes, a belt and bows. The accessories are being sold for L$100 each, and some come in a small range of colours.

6 Month Anniversary, New SIM and Accessory Hunt

With the update came the news that Petable Turtles will be transitioning out of their store on the Shark SIM. They opened their new self-named Petable SIM on Thursday. The SIM contains three tents acting as the mainstores, and from which you can get points items, food supplies, and in the third tent – the new accessories. Wander through the SIM to find a fishing spot – which has a new custom Petable catch added to it to celebrate the 6 month anniversary of Petable. There are also some nice waterfall features and a gypsy camp to discover on the SIM.

To celebrate the new SIM opening, this weekend saw an accessory hunt started. Eight different accessories are scattered across the new SIM. The Petable team has even given you some generous hints towards finding them, on their blog. The accessory hunt ends March 15th in the morning sometime, so if you haven’t done this yet, get in there.

Special Charity Accessory

Finally, the Petable team created a special accessory with proceeds going to a charity. This globe idea was based on one that I myself put through to them, so gets my whole-hearted support. The globe is related to the Discworld series of books by Terry Pratchett, and funds will be going to support a charity working for alzheimers research and to support patients and caregivers living with this awful disease.

The charity accessory is available for L$270 outside of the accessory tent, and will be available until the end of April.

I’ve noticed that no matter what time of my day I post these news roundups, at least two or three SL breedable brands out there will later come out with some more announcements of changes, updates, specials or new features. Tuesday appears to be quite a busy time on any Breedable animal’s agenda. We’ll see if something else happens today, then, after I’ve posted up this one for the news from the last week.

But generally, in the Breedable world, there’s some welcome peace and reasonable stability with most breedable brands, with some exciting promises of new specials and items to come soon.

Breedables Overall

The past week’s vote for most community chat will go to the forum discussions over the past update and upcoming update for Ozimals bunnies. Although several ideas put across in those forums appear to have coincidentally been taken up by the other brand of bunnies in-world, that of HunnyBunny recently.

In the meantime, Petable Turtles announced something which got many ‘shellers’ excited – accessories. PinkyPigs and sionChickens showed no movement or changes to their status, nor did the Pound Puppies franchise – where we still await the start of beta. PlantPets went through an emergency update via a plant robot sent out, and all appears to have gone well there also.

With St Patrick’s Day coming up this month, there is much anticipation in many breedable brand communities for some celebratory special or item to perhaps collect for the day. The only breedable brand so far to take up on this holiday publically is HunnyBunny with a special edition St Patteh’s Bunny – something we are personally hoping to be able to purchase.

HunnyBunny Bunnies

The St Patteh Bunneh

HunnyBunny announced a new collector bunny this last week. The St. Patteh Bunneh will be available exclusively over St Patrick’s day, and limited to only 50 editions.

Starter Packs No Longer Sold

HunnyBunny announced that starter packs of HB eggs would no longer be sold via the mainstore or vendors, leaving only the markets for the selling of bunnies and eggs. Market store owners were encouraged to create their own starter packs containing eggs and information on the bunnies.

Trading for Eggs

In a notecard announcement HunnyBunny farmers were informed that we might like to keep our HB eggs because a trade-in system was being setup.

1.2 Update Coming

After the impact and discussions over the last 1.1 update to Ozimals bunnies, a proposed 1.2 update feature set was put up onto the Ozimals Community forum for suggestions also. Yesterday, further information was provided on this upcoming update in-world via a notecard through groups.

The update remains being tested, and will remain so until the grid is more stable. Linden Labs intends a series of upgrades and restarts again today and this Thursday, so the update will not come until after those as a minimum.

The update has been confirmed to contain the following -

1. Increase the nest expiration timer to 120 days.
2. Increase the cool down period between generations to 4 days.
3. Extend the “baby phase” to 7 days.
4. Revert the range minimum back down to 1 meter.
5. Adjust bond time to 5 days.
6. Lengthen times on food to allow for the increased cooldowns.
7. Matriach or Patriach and Elder fix (to show in hovertext)

Happy Stumps Taken Away

Happy stumps previously available to purchase via the Ozimals mainstore and xstreetsl.com were taken down from sales by Ozimals with the announcement that they were investigating the stumps for causing inbalances in the game.

Pook Bunny Poses

A smaller pose creator, Pook, came out with a six-pack of bunny poses which work with Ozimals bunnies when holding them. These allow some nice portrait shots.

New Group and Mentors

To help out newcomers to the bunnies, given that the Ozimals Orations & Updates group chat can speed by very quickly, a new group called “Ozimals Questions and Answers” has been opened to join – solely for bunny related chat and for questions – and hopefully answers.

One of the suggestions on the forums recently made was one towards having a group of Ozimals mentors who could help out newcomers with some problems in setup etc. This suggestion has been taken onboard. If you think this is a good idea for yourself, contact Candy Cerveau with your application. You’ll need a good knowledge of Ozimals and be prepared to TP to people’s bunny areas to help out.

International Store

Ozimals is soon to open up an international store beside it’s main store with vendors and bunny packs translated into several different languages.

Accessories for Turtles

Petable Turtles told everyone about an upcoming exciting feature in the next release on Tuesday last. Petable Turtles would have accessories (think capes, glasses, etc). If you have any suggestions for appropriate accessories, you are welcome to add there to the suggestion board on the Petable Community Forums.

New Points Item – the Autoboxer

With the live trader system reaching 100% over the weekend came the new and greatly anticipated release of a new points item – the ‘autoboxer’. This is available for a certain amount of points and for certain levels of breeders or above. It appears to be very popular with larger breeders in particular who have the primmage to set out egg boxes beforehand, saving huge amounts of time in having to manually box each egg from their clutches.

March’s Birthstone – the Aquamarine

With the tick-over to March came the first rash of March Birthstones – this month is the Aquamarine. We had three females immediately, but remain trying to trade at least one of these for a male.

Emergency Update – Spawn Script to 4

On the 27th with server problems, PlantPets sent out an updater robot to update all plantpets. This updated the spawncontrol script to a version 4. The PlantPets themselves remain sitting at Version 2.0. If you did not receive this Planty 4 robot, you can pick up another copy via simply hitting the update button on your PlantPet control menu. The robot will update all of your plantpets to the latest version, with your help.

Additionally, baby plantpets (in gift boxes) will also need updating. These should be sent in a folder to Bruce Liebknect for updating. Put your name on the folder, obviously. (Note – some people with PlantPets may not be aware of this need with the baby plantpets, as we weren’t, given the amount of IMs and subscribo news items which came through during this same period).

Beta Testing

No news on the beta testing front this last weekend.

No news on the chickens front once again. Farmers continue to sell out of all their chicken stock, and rare varieties of chickens can be found costing very little if you go looking.

This last week has been large enough with updates, specials and some controversy. Throw in some breedable fish, then. Yes, 7Seas went breedable a couple of weeks ago, and we didn’t pick up on it until this last week. You can enjoy our experiments with fishing up some breeding flame angelfish for yourselves too, from our blog posts. Over the next week I’ll summarise this information onto a page here at TCD.

Turnips also did us all a favour, on Fifty Lindens Friday, by featuring an awesome red barn – and all the stuff inside – both for only L$50 for the day.

HunnyBunny VDay Specials

Earlier in the week, a very few of the collector’s bunny – the VDay HunnyBunny Bunny, were still available for sale. Over the last weekend with all sold, the HunnyBunny VDay bunny officially became a collectors item.

HunnyBunny does Sheep

On last Wednesday we received the surprising news that HunnyBunny owner, Hunny Larimore was currently busy designing her next animal – the HB Sheep.

An HB Bunny Update

Communicated in previous weeks, the Official HunnyBunny blog listed detailed information on what the next update for HB bunnies would feature. This would include no sickness, no limits on bunnies within a range, no double-dipping on food, a male cool off period and a re-design of the bunnies (hinted at also in the V-Day design). At point of publication, the update is still to come.

Wyrmwood Posters and BreedBook

The Ozimals Breed Book is now on Version 5, while the latest Posters are at Version 4 (possibly). Both are free to pick up from various stores across the grid, or from the mainstore of Wyrmwood also.

Update to Version 1.1

This last weekend Ozimals released an update, taking the bunnies to version 1.1. This update added fixes to some problems, two new furs and a new eye colour to starter packs, and some features which caused some concerns through the Ozimals community of farmers. Ozimals have asked for suggestions and feedback via their forums over these features. The resulting feelings in the community saw several notecards of information sent out to clarify the Ozimals update.

None of this information has been put up on the official Ozimals blog, as Ozimals relies more forcefully on in-world group and the community forums on the website. Those links and notecards can, however be found in the blog posts here at TCD to lead you to the correct and official information and discussions over this update.

Market Forces

Some of the changes and new features of Version 1.1 Ozimals were designed to counteract the current market climate in bunnies. Some of the markets appear to be saturated with common variety nests, with some selling their nests and undercutting the price of what Ozimals sell starter packs for from the main store.

The update to Version 1.1 saw many ozimals sellers reacting negatively driven perhaps by some misconceptions and not reading the update notices correctly. Over the weekend there were many rushed sell outs of old version bunnies, both live and as nests, whilst perceived “special bunnies” – those with rarer fur combinations remained fetching high premiums.

Mardi Gras Turtles

Last Tuesday an announcement was made of a lucky draw for a new special turtle to celebrate the day – the Mardi Gras. All owners of Petable Turtles were given the chance to draw a coloured dubloom from a chest in-store, then awaited the draw at 7am SLT the next day.

The colour yellow was drawn, and happy yellow holders collected their special Mardi Gras eggs Wednesday. Although we were not in the lucky winners hat, thanks to some fortunate trading, we managed to get hold of a Mardi Gras for our collection.

Market Forces

It would not be fair to not discuss last week’s specials without some news on the markets and some consternation within some circles over the random luck of getting some of the most recent special turtles.

Last week saw an extremely rare “Kiss Me” Valentine starting off at auction with a starter bid of L$25,000. This was later followed by another Kiss Me going up for sale with a price of L$60,000. A Mardi Gras was reportedly sold for L$85,000 signifying that there are people out there with that type of cash for collector’s turtles, but driving small-time turtle owners and collectors out of the current markets. This week, the marketplaces were reasonably empty of specials for sale, particularly females, although birthstones remain fetching a premium of average L$8-9K

Next Points / Trader Item

The live trader count passed 50% over the weekend, allowing the next hint of what that next points item will be once the trader has reached 100%. This time around, the Petable team seem to be hinting at an automatic turtle egg boxer system, but it is also the first to be related to obtaining a certain breeder level also.

First Special Born – The Love Pig

With the update to V2.2 of the Sunday before (Valentines Day), came the facility to get a first special edition piggy. It wasn’t until Friday that Raymond Algoma could announce that the first special had been born to some lucky person out there.

The first special pig has been born. So as such I’ll let you know how to spot these little fella’s. The special aka “The Love Pig” has a reddish skin, heart shaped spots, as well as red heart shaped eyes.

A couple of weekend’s ago, PlantPets brought out a new range of plants – climbing roses. I personally had one of these gifted to me from Plant Pets after having discovered a minor problem. During the last week we also had the first arrival of a spawned baby plant in the barn, after 52 days of waiting.

I went to take a look at the new PlantPets Main Store layout, and all the new plants that are out in the range over the last weekend.

Beta Testing

Although the closed beta testing group initially had expectations towards going into beta this week, due to Real Life urgencies taking a current priority with the Pound Puppies creator, beta testing commencement is now scheduled for this coming weekend. We continue to look forward to that when it does arrive.

No news on the chickens front once again.

However, there’s again been a lot of total sell outs of chickens advertised through the advertising groups, including somebody giving away a scarce pair for free. Another avatar jokingly suggested he was making a “Where in the World is Sion” t-shirt to share out, proof of the community unrest over the creator of sionChickens not having been in-world for many months now.

In a controversial piece, which also listed griefers as previously winning these award, the Alphaville Herald announced 3rd Place of the Avatar of the Year Award as going to Sion Zaius.

Happy Pancake Day, everybody – a day celebrated by hundreds of thousands of Christians world-wide celebrating Shrove Tuesday leading into Lent and Easter– with lashings of pancakes, of course! (Yes, and it’s Mardi Gras day too, for some Americans). What a day! And what a week!

This has been a large week and weekend particularly for Breedables – with three different brands celebrating valentines with gifts or special edition animals, a large update for another brand, and exciting news from some also. Add to that some drastic bull markets for some breeds or special varieties, and it’s nice to have a bit of a rest for a few days.

What a huge weekend it’s been for Breedables overall, is all that needs to be said here. Oh, and there’s lots about updates, special valentines breedables and gifts, and increasing surprises through the markets.

HunnyBunny Bunnies

HunnyBunny Valentines Bunny

Thursday had an announcement concerning the sale on Valentines of a special edition HunnyBunny. This was the first limited bunny edition – only 100 would be on sale. We were promised more info soon…

…Which came on Saturday. The HunnyBunny VDay Bunny has some special features, which can be passed onto future progeny. VDay special editions sport coloured bows and ears – which you can choose the colour of. The coloured ears are an indication towards the new design for HB bunnies discussed the week before. These VDay bunnies also have special heart-shaped carry cases – one comes with the bunny, more are available to buy from the store.

Over Monday, the VDay special bunny was opened up allowing avatars who already had purchased one, to get another while stocks still existed. We still haven’t quite got hold of our one to welcome into the family (due to international time constraints) but will update you over the next week once our little VGirl arrives.

Elite Expectancy

A natural born Elite Ozimals bunny was expected over this last week. Elites arrive with particular circumstances including the generations of breeding, and parent feature details. On Tuesday last, Ozimals offered a US $50 Amazon voucher as a reward for the first person to have born a natural Elite bunny. However at this point in writing, the first Elite is still to be born – perhaps hastened along by the Valentines gift over this last weekend.

Valentines Gift

Ozimals gifted all bunny owners with a free Valentines gift this week. From Friday 12th February to Friday 19th February, the Ozimals Valentines Love Totem is available to use, one per avatar. This totem, when set out with a bunny warren, will raise the love statistics of all bunnies within a 20 meter range. On expiry of the totem love powers on this coming Friday, the totem – which is a statue of bunnies, will still make a good collector’s item for the bunnies.

Wyrmwood Posters – Version 3

On Saturday, an updated version of the free full-perms posters from Wyrmwood was sent out. These posters contain all the images of Ozimals breeds and fur coat types, eye types and ear types. They are particularly useful for stores and breeders to have for information.

Bunny Monitor V1.3

Many large breeders have sung the praises lately for the Enyo Twins Bunnies Monitor. This was previously called the Ozimals Bunny Monitor, but some cases of mistaken ownership have now meant that it’s been renamed in the latest version to simply (ET) Bunnies Monitor. The monitor was updated to Version 1.3 over the weekend with this new name and some additional features for use with your Ozimals bunnies.

Retired Bunnies

Over the past weekend Ozimals implemented another surprise for the markets. Two breeds had randomly been selected to be retired. The havana black and mini rex chocolate are no longer available within starter or breeder packs through Ozimals vendors, both as dominant or recessive lines.

Although you will still find these breeds in current stock and popping out from genetic breeding of current bunnies across the grid, certainly for some time into the future.

The news, implemented over Saturday evening SLT time saw many of these tw0 breed’s live bunnies and nests either being taken off sale or raised by large percentages (changes from L$300 to L$3000) by those in the know thinking their future rarity would make them in-demand, or perhaps mistakenly thinking it was the immediate end to both breeds. For those selling who were asleep over their international night-time, they arrived in-world the next day to see their own cheaper-priced stock grabbed up in the bull market produced by this unexpected news. The news caused some misunderstandings and controversy for a little time, while Ozimals moved to clarify what Retirement meant (although I thought it obvious in the first explanation notecard, some obviously didn’t).

The decision to retire two random breeds was explained by Ozimals towards introducing some market and population dynamics – “control population and keep the market fresh and exciting.” From an armchair viewpoint, it certainly was interesting to watch the market over the last weekend.

Rumours abound also within chat channels that the two retired bunnies will be replaced soon by two new breeds or fur colours. This is a rumour only, because it’s not written down in the Retirement notecards, but perhaps has been discussed over Ozimals official chats which I wasn’t party too. The Retirement notecards do mention that some more exciting changes will be coming in the future.

Update to V01.07.04

On Thursday an unexpected but quick update was rolled out for Petable Turtles, wearable turtles, and the HUD. Version 01.07.04 included the facility to implement two new special holiday turtles (we immediately started hoping for a valentines one), three new points items (to be announced at later dates) and corrected the texture problem with the eyes on Holiday turtles.

Breeder Levels

The version update allowed for the implementation of Breeder levels in the HUD. These are assigned according to the number of points you have accumulated, and get more difficult to attain on the higher levels. Thankfully, our barn’s program of small-time breeding has still managed to raise us to mid-level (and Adult Turtle is the level name) although achieving the elderly status will probably be out of our reach for many years to come. These higher levels are achievable for the larger breeders with millions of points, however.

Breeder Levels have not, as yet, any bonuses, although since they have been implemented, there is an expectation that achieving a new level might bring some type of reward in the future.

Valentines 2010 Turtles

We had already guessed that the new update of this last week might provide a valentines turtle as one of the new specials released but the arrival on Saturday of the first few Valentines turtles came as a large surprise to much of the Petable breeding community.

Valentines Turtles were only laid in the 48 period of the past weekend. There are five variations, and each of these special turtles denotes this with their shell showing the words. The Valentines look like little love candy pieces. These little Valentines specials are perhaps our own favourites of the specials so far, although we only got the most common varieties to admire in our own barn.

We have managed to purchase two of the five varieties, so have a reasonable collection. However, because the Kiss Me variety is so rare, it is fetching astounding premiums on the market at the moment, putting it out of the budgets of our own collection. One Kiss Me today went up for auction with a starter bid of L$25,000, signifying an increasing market for such rarities in the turtle world.

Mardi Gras Turtles

Only today, Petable announced a new special turtle – this time being given out in a lucky draw. Draw a colour from a chest at the mainstore, and hope for either a silver or the colour which will eventually give you a Mardi Gras turtle. More details on the Petable blog – you have until 7am tomorrow (Wednesday) to draw your colour.

Bunnies SIM

At 8am SLT on Thursday, the re-designed Bunnies SIM was opened for business by The Farm. Previously exclusively for HunnyBunny bunnies, the Bunnies SIM is now open to all breedable and AI pets, with some provisios on how certain live animals should be sold or put out on stalls or stores.

Other ALL Markets

There has been a growing trend recently across the grid for markets to allow for all breedable brands, with rules and provisios over how certain lives or newborns should be displayed (often in boxes, or with Ozimals movement turned off).

In fact, many markets which existed only a few months beforehand have disappeared off the grid, and some of the larger markets which remain have changed over to ALL breedables, creating much more interesting markets to walk around. Before the Bunnies and The Farm markets did this, both Turtle XChange and Prim & Pixel Paradise / Turtle Bay both opened themselves up to the other breedables.

Avatars United : SL Breedables & AI Pets Group

With our team’s registration onto Avatars United, over the last week we opened a dedicated group on AU called SL Breedables & AI Pets. This group is intended for news and discussion on ALL breedable and AI Pet brands in Second Life. Not for advertising. In fact, we have already put up several news items onto the group forums and shout boxes as they have happened. So join up if you want to hear the news as soon as we hear it.

New Egg Cradles

New egg cradles were sent out to anybody who had previously purchased them, to resolve some problem we missed out in noticing. Your egg cradles for boxing up HunnyBunny eggs should now be at version 1.021.

Bunny Re-Styled – Version 2 to Come

On Saturday we received word of a re-style of the HunnyBunnies. Syle Devin will redesign the bunnies with a new fur coat and tinted ears. With that news came a further announcement about further features for the upcoming Version 2 HunnyBunny bunnies. These include changes to make keeping the bunnies easier, and the option to not take on the re-style of the bunny design as this makes the bunnies slightly more prims.

For a list of the new features which will be coming with HB V2.0 take a look at the news forum post on our group on Avatars United (link below). Or the Blog Post just today (HunnyBunny is yet to update the information onto their blog)

HunnyBunny on Avatars United

One of the first Breedable brands to implement their official position on Avatars United, HunnyBunny has an official group there which you can join.

During the week a Version 3 of the free Thinc book on Ozimals bunny breeds was released. As was the free poster pack. Both are taken from the excellent image database of Ozimals breeds on Wyrmwood online. In fact, there are some with a Version 4 of this book, so check your versions, and request it from somebody you know has the latest.

There remain a few images of various coat types which still need to be added to this reference gallery. So if you have any of the missing types, please contact the Wyrmwood owner, Lorissia Fraisse.

Ozimals Makes it Onto Avatars United

Over the last couple of weeks you may have noticed the movement of people onto Linden Lab’s latest purchase, that of the social networking site, Avatars United.

This week, Ozimals owners Candy Cerveau and Malkavyn Eldritch created Avatars United profiles, and overnight the Ozimals Official AU Group was created to join. Of course, you will find The Chicken Diaries as a member of that group.

February Birthstones

With the movement into February came the pursuit for this month’s special turtles – Birthstones in Amethyst. The Chicken Diaries’ barn has been fortunate in receiving four of these, all in silver, so far. Laughingly, one of these was inbred, so not valuable for breeding purposes, and the rest are all male.

By the end of the week, while some on in-world groups may have been muttering about the same people appearing to be ‘lucky’ in receiving multiple Birthstone eggs, the Petable creator himself still had not gotten a February birthstone despite owning hundreds of turtles. He would later get one, but the draw for Birthstones is exceedingly random.

Wyrmwood’s Free Turtle Show Egg

Lorissia Fraisse is not only generous in her Ozimals pursuits, but recently she has made her large Turtle Show egg full perms. You can pick this large demo egg up from her store, take it home and change the egg colours to match the show colours for this week’s Petable Show contest. (Incidentally, this week’s show is Valentines).

Trader Item [Updated]

The new trader item hinted at last week arrived a couple of hours after the posting of this news roundup. It is actually two items – L$ item called a chastity belt and a points item Key.

The Chastity belt will cost you L$50 per turtle (males and females apply). Once applied to a turtle, the turtle will eat half of it’s normal food, which will save you more than the L$50 spent on the belt over the course of a month of eating. The consequence of the belt, however, is that it turns the turtle to a ‘chaste’ setting meaning it will not produce eggs over that term. To take off the belt and thus allow the return of breeding, there is a new points item – for 5,000 points you can purchase a key to unlock the chastity belt.

For breeders interested in getting eggs (and therefore points), this new item pairing may not be the way to go, but for those looking to take a long-term vacation or to offer turtles as non-breeding pets, the chastity belt has some potential to create such a market.

Trade in Your Pigs

Sunday February 7th was the last day for the trade-in offer for any unwanted PinkyPigs you may possess. For the week proceeding this, you could have traded in three pigs for a bowl of food or a mudpit, or five for two.

Upcoming Update

PinkyPigs creator Raymond Algoma released some features within the PinkyPigs Update group on last Wednesday towards a major upcoming release (tentatively due this week sometime). This new version of PinkyPigs will include new breedable traits, and random special features also.

For a list of the tentative new features which may be currently in testing, take a look at the news forum post on our group on Avatars United (link below) which was later posted onto The Chicken Diaries. Note that the new design of PinkyPigs will mean they will have slightly more prims.

No changes on this front.

(note that the in-world PlantPets update group is closed to new members, and the PlantPets blog has not been updated for some time, so there isn’t an easy way of hearing of any news from this front).

Beta Testing

On Thursday a few found out the fortunate news that they had been drawn to be the first set of beta testers for Pound Puppies. Included in this list was PacificBlue Hanly of The Chicken Diaries, so we’ve been very fortunate here of late. More information is available via the in-world update group for Pound Puppies, or also visit the HQ for these breedable dogs.

Yesterday the small list of initial beta testers were sent notecards for their testing dog breeds, so it may appear that Beta Testing for Pound Puppies may soon be starting in earnest.

sionChickens and sionLife

No news on the sionChicken or Life front. However this last weekend, PacificBlue located a scarce chicken underwater way off the SIM shelf. The chicken said it was dead but revivable, so Pacific wore him, walked him slowly back to the barn, purchased some healing potion, and revived him.

Given that the chicken was a male scarce, and we haven’t had scarces in the barn for over five months, this goes to prove that revivable but dead chickens certainly have some longevity about them.

Breedables Overall

The main movement seen generally in breedables this last week was possibly the opening up of two large previously exclusive markets to all breedables.

The Farm and Bunnies SIM

Last Tuesday, The Farm’s Bunnies SIM was opened to all brands of breedables. Previously this market SIM had an exclusive agreement with the HunnyBunny business, but that arrangement ends February 3rd. However, the SIM itself is being re-designed and won’t be open to rentals until this coming Thursday 4th at 8am SLT.

The Farm has opened a live bunnies barn on the Chickens SIM, which appears to be quite popular for Ozimals breeders in particular.

With the move to ALL breedables, and the fact that The Farm has a large in-world group, the advertising of animals has been opened up inside of this group. Before, only those with stores and stalls on The Farm SIMs could advertise their sales through the group. SLurls to other areas, whether personal or otherwise, were not allowed in advertising. Now anybody can advertise and provide a slurl to where the animals can be viewed or purchased, even if not on The Farm sims, provided that other markets are not named. Always check the latest group notifications to confirm the covenants on group advertising.

Turtle Xchange Market & Orphanage

Friday saw an announcement from Turtle Xchange which now welcomes other AI pets – the provisio being that only turtles are allowed to be ‘live’. This means other breedables must be ether boxed eggs or nests. Additionally, the minimum price lists will no longer be enforced.

SL Breedables & AI Pets Group on Avatars United

With The Chicken Diaries team members and general avatar joining up on Avatars United, we took the liberty of opening up a new group for Breedables on there. We subsequently found that there is an Breedables group on Avatars United, in unison with an in-world group, but our one is for discussion and news rather than advertising, so both appear complementary. So far we have put up several news items for Breedables as they have happened in-world, so we welcome any new members to that AU group to support the news ticking over.

Link : SL Breedables & AI Pets Group on Avatars United.

HunnyBunny Bunnies

Random Color Day

Wednesday 27th saw the advertised ‘Random Color’ Day. Any starter or breeder packs bought beforehand and hatched in this precse 24 hour period had random colors of bunnies away from the official cyan, magenta and yellow. This was a one day only opportunity.

HunnyBunny Resellers and Vendors

In a similar vein to what Ozimals has previously done with it’s own logos and textures, to save abuse of the official HunnyBunny logo, all second party sellers of HunnyBunny products or animals must now no longer use the HunnyBunny logo and textures outright.

HunnyBunny has sent out new textures to be used, communicating that merchants are now ‘HunnyBunny Resellers’. Always look for those logos and textures when purchasing outside of the new mainstore or on SIM.

HunnyBunny has now brought out reseller vendors, available to be installed at your own reseller market or store. You will need to apply for these via a notecard and have Hunny Larimore install these for you.

New SIM

Hunny Larimore announced last week the movement of HunnyBunny away from the Bunnies SIM setup by The Farm, who were the major sponsors for HunnyBunny whilst in beta. HunnyBunny would have it’s own SIM.

As announced by both The Farm and HunnyBunny, the HB exclusive arrangement ends February 3rd, and the Farm is currently re-designing the Bunnies SIM to open to all brands of breedables (see Breedables General news above).

The new HunnyBunny SIM was opened up on Sunday 31st January, without huge pomp and circumstance. Hunny sent out a notecard describing the new heart-shaped SIM and it’s features, and later the landmark was sent out.

The SIM itself indicates the new branding for HunnyBunny – the land title reads ‘HunnyBunny – The Color Bunnies of SL’. I went and took a look a few hours later during a quiet time, and enjoyed some of the areas there. Rentals for market stalls are still available for HB breeders.

First Rare born – A Lop

Just as we were about to go to press, the HunnyBunny Farmers group in-world got the news that a lop-earred bunny had just been born. This is the first rare of HB bunnies, and Hunny Larimore suggests these are very rare. Born to Jackk Eales, he proudly sent through an image of his little yellow lop-earred baby bunny to the group. This will most probably be available up on HunnyBunny’s official flickr group and elsewhere too. If you can’t wait for a shot, I received permission to use it on Avatars United, where you will find it on TCD Breedables group there.

Banned Avatars

Last Tuesday Ozimals took an unprecedented step not seen before in the breedables industry in publicly communicating the banning of one particular avatar and her alts from owning or selling Ozimals bunnies. A notecard was sent out warning people in the Ozimals community regarding the multiple instances of abuse of terms of service etc from this particular character.

The particular person involved, Hudson Novak, still belonged to the ‘What’s Up Oz’ group which is also the name for the orphanage in the middle of this controversy. This group appears to now be disbanded.

On Sunday Ozimals again issued warnings to please ban DoMme Crystal from any parcels containing Ozimals, as they were copybotting the bunnies. This comes with a reminder that all Ozimals bunnies and accompanying products should bear the name Aeron Constantine as the seller, and no other. Aeron is the business avatar for the Ozimals brand.

Alien Bunneh

Sunday was the last day for the sale of Ozimals [europa] Alien Bunnies. Proceeds from Ozimals side of sales are going to yele.org, in support of Haiti relief causes. From Monday onwards your only way of getting these elite bunnies is to purchase from an Ozimals reseller. As yet, we have not seen any for re-sale.

LAP Poses

Dove Swanson, of Long Awkward Poses, who provided the original poses found for holding an Ozimals bunny has brought out a collection of new poses which you can use when posing with your favourite bunny.

Wyrmwood’s Breed Posters

On 1st February, L0rissia Fraisse of Wyrmwood released the large breeds gallery of images onto full perm posters for use in-world. These should always be free to use. We added Lorissia’s blog to the Ozimals info page here at The Chicken Diaries, as it is THE major source of information on breeds for Ozimals bunnies and contains other very important information outside of the official Ozimals support site.

Birthstone Pursuits

Petable Turtle live and egg markets skyrocketed this last week, due to the demand for special trait turtles in the pursuit of the new specials, the first of which was the January birthstone – a garnet. While prices of breeding age live special turtles moved up, there was a corresponding drop in prices on many shine and glow ordinary turtles, as many breeders sort to move this stock off markets to make room for the demanded specials.

Any Birthstones actually put out for sale were snapped up for large amounts of lindens, often by breeders looking to locate breeding pairs of the birthstones to increase chances for another in the next month. Since the switch-over to February, the January birthstone prices are slowly dropping from their peak at over L$10,000.

The Petable chat groups were kept rolling with announcements towards the arrival of a birthstone, but there remained some disappointed smaller breeders who didn’t have one of these Birthstones arrive. On a personal note, it became a close call for our own small holding on whether we would ever get one also, however ours arrived late in the week, and we also were fortunate enough to get two more in a last minute rush of Birthstones right on the last day of January.

On 1st February the new month’s birthstone – an amethyst – arrived. At 12:35am Shelly Macchi had the first clutch to contain the new Birthstone. Several others were laid over the next few hours.

New Points Item

On Friday the Live turtle trader ticked past 50 percent, meaning an announcement hint on the next points item. The hint, also found on the Petable official blog, caused lots of queries and excitement through the Petable chat groups, as it hints at a tool for decreasing the turtle’s food requirements.

Wearable Turtles

Petable brought out a new product, allowing us all to wear our favourite turtles. The Wearable Turtle is the faux turtle which is worn, and via a licensed process you can then choose one of your turtles, and have the wearable turtle take on it’s appearance.

Update to Version 2.1

PinkyPigs updated to Version 2.1 during the week. The new updater –Version 2.1, is available at the mainstore, but will only be out for two weeks until February 4th. Once updated, your PinkyPigs HUD should be at version 2.0.

This update corrected a registration delay with newborn piglets, and moved the pigs to an outside server so that data is now backed up. Here at The Chicken Diaries farm, we noticed a huge difference immediately, when a little piglet was born and was instantly alive, without needing to register her to the hud.

New Vendors are also out with this update, necessary so that people can still buy pig packs with the updated HUD. Commission vendors are free.

Trade In Unwanted Pigs

On Sunday the PinkyPig Updates group was tempted by the announcement of the ability to trade in unwanted pigs for items. 3 piggies for 1 food or mud, 5 piggies for 2. This commenced Sunday, but we are unsure if it has yet been stopped.

PlantPets

No changes on this front.

(note that the in-world PlantPets update group is closed to new members, and the PlantPets blog has not been updated for some time, so there isn’t an easy way of hearing of any news from this front).

Pound Puppies [Updated]

Last week in Breedable Weekly news we found that Pound Puppies was facing a potential law suit. The in-world beta group had not heard any news up until this blog was published. Later Tuesday the excellent news that the copywrite allegations had been dealt with through a Colorado court of law, and Pound Puppies has been found to own the copywrites for Second Life. With this news comes the return of display dogs at the Pound Puppies HQ, plus upcoming first closed beta release.

sionChickens and sionLife

After the announcement of ill-health for one main figure in sionChicken support, the main in-world groups have remained ticking over slowly. The Chicken Guardian advertising group continues to hold adverts for chickens for sales. Many sionChicken breeders have continued to sell off all their stock, to make way for other breedables – Ozimals Bunnies are the main competitor here. This sell off of some rarer breeds of sionChickens has also seen more interest in them from a few new to the brand, with newbie questions entering the groups again. This has been something nice to see for sionChickens at least.

Some bad news for one potential breedable brand this week, a quiet breeding week for the bunnies and pigs, and a huge noticable drop in pricing for rare sionChickens as several large farmers sold out of that business. But the biggest news this last week goes to Petable Turtles, which underwent an update that changed the overall look of the turtles, and which also brought out the potential to have a new special turtle.

Sunday 24th January saw the live taping of the Tonight Live with Paisley Beebe show, featuring Sapphira Lavall advocating breedables. You can catch this show via tweet.tv or in-world on your media screens currently. The show is entitled – Pets, Frets and Internet Censorship. Direct link to Treet.tv showing below also.

There are some of the breedables hopping around in the background of this show. Although Paisley’s show concentrated on ‘pets’ overall (and she has the same Zooby cat we do), Sapphira arrived with several supporters in the audience, and thanks to the Petable team, was able to give out packs of starter turtles to that audience also.

Next Generation HBs

Last Tuesday or Wednesday – the first generation eggs / bunnies were produced by the original HB bunnies bought on opening day, not without a hitch with some of the first eggs containing an error on hatching them from eggcradles if owners had boxed them before hatching. A new set of eggcradles was sent out to correct this problem.

Random Color Day Coming

Tomorrow (Wednesday 27th January 2010) will see the advertised Random Color Day. Any starter or breeder packs bought since the announcement on last Thursday and hatched in this 24 hour period will have random colors of bunnies away from the official cyan, magenta and yellow. This is a one day only opportunity.

Forums Opened

Petable Turtles opened their official forums on Tuesday 19th. Register with your SL name, and IM Matthew Anthony in-world to confirm your avatar ID.

Version 01.06.07

Thursday 21st perhaps saw Petable Turtles go through their biggest update yet. Not only did the turtles’ looks change (new eyes, a tail, new shell texture, bigger size),but a new special turtle type was released on the same day – 12 through the year, with three variations.

Birthstone Turtles

With version 01.06 came the possibility of having a ‘Birthstone’ special turtle egg laid – January has the garnet. On the same day as the update, a Petable group member announced the birth of the first special turtle for this new series and several people have had some since. Later that day, Petable released the secrets to getting a birthstone on their blog.

‘Special’ Turtle Markets

Since the knowledge was released that we require breedings between any special turtles to possibly birth a birthstone turtle, the secondary marketplaces have really heated up with the selling and purchasing of special turtles, making these difficult to locate again. All types of ‘special’ turtles are being sought after to help out in the effort to find a birthstone in a clutch.

No real changes or news for PinkyPig owners, although there has been a noticable but small pickup in markets for the pigs, with pens of pigs showing up for sale at various Breedable farm markets across the grid.

PlantPets

Just as Pound Puppies was about to enter closed beta, with a celebratory concert featuring AC/DC, the Pound Puppies have been hit with a pending copywrite violation allegation against them, presumably by one of the other supposed ‘AI’ dog creators within Second Life – although it might not be a dog creator. One would presume that this is over textures or sculpties, given the common sense that you can’t actually copywrite a dog or breed, colour or accessory for that matter.

Of course, it could be via Hornby, a toy company that created ‘Pound Puppies’ toys in the 1980’s in which case several of us can probably come up with a different name for the product…

Whilst the lawyers dispute this allegation, unfortunately for us this means that all display dogs have been taken down from the HQ, (although these were not textured realistically anyway), and discussion of any special traits (which must include a lifecycle of growth, and the ability to breed amongst dogs in this particular case of second life breedables) can not be communicated with those on the closed beta listing or externally.

sionChickens and sionLife

This last week must be put down as feeling like the death-knell of sionChickens. With the news leaked that one particular popular customer support member for sionChickens is rumoured (falsely or not) to no longer working for them and with the other being missing in action for sometime (due, it was later found out to suffering a heart attack) some of the top groups for support were so extremely quiet. This resulted this last week in several complete stock sellouts from sionChicken farmers who were previously extremely supportive and big in the secondary markets.

These sales of all chicken stock saw this TCD team able to finally purchase a ‘golden rooster’ only yesterday – something financially out of our capabilities only a couple of months beforehand. Sadly, three golden roosters went up for sale yesterday alone, as did martian chickens and other rare races of sionChickens at plummetting prices. With sion Zaius having disappeared from Second Life for so long, the writing appears on the wall for the brand, but some remain hopeful that sion will make a re-appearance to re-vitalise the brand and his breedable strategies, perhaps even by bringing out a sionLife animal.

There’s another breedable soon to move into beta. Pound Puppies are the creation of Donjuan Aker and Wolves Teardrop. Billed to be the ‘next big thing in Breedables’, there is already an HQ open for you to visit, and the Pound Puppies are soon to go into a closed beta test phrase – you have the chance to join.

Out on the stands are some prototype static dogs, but the one to really watch out for is the dachshund. There is a dachshund statue out the front, but if you cam up to the second level you may well spot one on the floor.

The simple notecard of information available says this so far -

The new Pound Puppies are coming soon they are compleatly interactive, breedable, and soon will have different breeds there will also be rares available of these cute dogs the beta testing Will Begin soon if you would like to have one of these during beta a select few will be chosen to test a pound puppy all you need to do is : All Beta Testers Will be Required to Give Constructive input.
IM (Instant Message):
Donjuan Aker or
Wolves Teardrop
then a select few will be drawn at random thank you for your interest and hope to hear from you note at the end of the beta the dogs will vanish before the final release

Pound Puppies will shortly be going into closed beta. People willing to beta test must be prepared to participate intensively in the testing process to ensure that the puppies are created as well as they can be. Additionally there may be beta testing focus groups. In-store you will find a Beta Testing questionnaire. Pick this up, fill it out (and don’t forget to put your name in it) and drop it off in the golden dog nearby. There is also a Beta Testing group for Pound Puppies to join. So find that spare slot for your efforts.

The questionnaire asks some excellent questions of the testing candidates such as ‘What features would we expect from a Breedable?’. I’ve filled out one myself, but whether my own expectations match with the concepts of the creators in what a pound puppy will look and act like is yet to be seen.

Additionally, if you are considering joining in with another Breedable beta test (or perhaps your first one), be prepared for a possible long journey. Some of the previous Breedables have taken several months of controlled efforts whilst in beta. It takes time for coders and creators to resolve bugs and release new versions, and to bring together their vision into a working and reacting animal.

Good luck on your own entries if you think this looks an interesting concept. We hope to blog about the Pound Puppies as they progress in development and testing for you here at The Chicken Diaries also.

Normally I would give you a SLurl, but this time around I think that if you’re keen enough, you’ll find it for yourself.
