Ozimals Bunnies | Announcing the Arrival of a Bouncing Baby Girl

First Offspring

The Chicken Diaries would like to make the happy announcement of our first Ozimals baby birth, after much anticipation, some medical treatments and walking away overnight in frustration.

Birth Weight : No idea
Name : CottontailGender : Female

Mother (and father) doing well.

Yesterday my Aunt and I had given up on getting nest in our barn. Despite our two bunny pairs reaching adulthood and maturity the night before, the entire day was spent awaiting nests which just never arrived. I even went as far as purchasing not one but four cans of Red Bunny energiser to bring up two of the bunnies’ energy levels. We had all four bunnies showing white text with full stats in love, energy and happiness, yet they appeared to not want to mate with each other.

24 hours later (and one full six hour sleep cycle for all four bunnies) and I returned to our now 5 day old bunnies to find two nests out in the barn. I chose this one to hatch, as I’ve not often seen a Holland Lop before. The other combination – between a black Havannah and a Dutch Chocolate produced another black Havannah. But this one produced something I wasn’t expecting.

For those interested -

Father (to the left) is a Blue & Orange Harlequin with dark brown eyes. Mother is a Mini Rex in red fur with dark blue eyes. Together both breeds intermixing produced a Holland Lop faun bunny with a new colour in eyes – Sapphire.

Admittedly, she looks like any field variety rabbit with her colouring – in fact, in many countries she would be considered a pest, and efforts would be made to rid her and her warren from the fields and pastures of the countryside. But, like many an Ozimals owner, I fell in love as soon as I saw her, and she’s going to lead a nice long life hopping around here with the other barn animals.

We learnt yesterday that not only are there two new fur colourings for each breed of Ozimals rabbit on release, but the Ozimals team forgot to tell all of us that there are also new eye colours. Here, I have a Sapphire. As expected, given that both parents have upright ears, my new baby bunny also has this trait in ears. And like her parents, her fur is classic too.

For those also interested – the Ozimals chair my bunnies are posing on proudly is available as the official Ozimals chair, and it’s a dollarbie for a five pack of different colours. Find it at the mainstore for Ozimals or on xstreetsl.com – search under Ozimals and you’ll find the chairs.
