Good grief. I’d just about given up on ever getting shine out of my small set of Petable Turtles. But here I am – they are only low shine, mind you – but at least there is hope. I put some fourth generation turtles together – I don’t think they’re particularly pretty turtles or eggs, but hey – they’re shiney. I was so surprised, I had to hop into the pen with the turtles (still enjoying being a tiny).
Hmmm, now comes the analysis of what makes shine – a question still being asked through all the Petable groups, with various theories being laughed at by the creators.
There are four sets of breeding couples in my pen, all fourth generation or slightly older. They’ve been breeding together for overĀ week now, and all I’ve got is plain old eggs – sent off to the egg trader for points – and a few glows. One of the couples are shine turtles themselves – I purchased two medium shine turtles in the hope that coupling them would produce shiney off-spring. No luck on that front.
Each pair has produced from one to three eggs per day. And this pair had already produced two eggs yesterday morning when I logged on. So, I was surprised to see another egg in the pen late last evening. It was so late, I left it there, not bothered to take a look at it until this morning.
This morning the couple had produced another three eggs. All four eggs are low shine. Huh? I boxed up my first (kind of like a trophy egg, heh). And now I’m wondering what to do with the rest – I really need points to buy anything, though.
Here are my own “ridiculous” theories about shine so farĀ -
- Fourth plus generation couple placed together. No inbreeding allowed.
- Breed them together for quite a few days – something on the Petable server triggers shine based on longevity on breeding.
- Leave out an egg from a previous mating. The egg lying around triggers the possibility of shine in the next lot of eggs.
- Leave out a shine egg. It’s like a virus…

Okakily dokaly (Simpsons reference), the next day I still am sticking to my ridiculous theories put out there.
My low shine producing couple produced another shine egg overnight – a medium shine this time. I’d let one of the shine eggs of yesterday hatch in the same cage, and also left out the first shine egg – so the virus theory takes off like a sneeze. Heh.
Incidentally, my two medium shine turtle pair in the nextdoor pen produced three pastel glowing eggs in their overnight batch too. I’ve never had that before either. But can do with the extra points, for sure.
