Petable Turtles | Good Guides for Petable Turtles

by PacificBlue on October 25, 2009

After playing around with fluffy bunnies for what feels like a whole week, I decided to get more hard-shelled about it. Pun intended, but still groanable. I did a quick fly-through to various markets and shops, scouting out some of my favourite tools for the Breedable animals now available, starting with guides for Petable Turtles.

The Best Guides for Petable Turtles

There are various notecard and book-type guides around the grid on Petable Turtles. Most of these are free also, or copyable. Here is a good roundup. If you know of, or have written or designed others, please let me know via comments and I will include on this list.

1.  Petable Turtle User Guide

Petable Info 150 Your first port of call should be the notecard-based system of the Petable Turtle User Guide. You can often pick this up from Starter packs at various stalls around Turtle markets, but once you get hold of a Petable Hud, you can simply request these notecards from that HUD. Various stalls also hold the Petable Turtles Info Vendor – look for the typical box-themed vendor. Click this, and you’ll be given the HUD and the full Info notecards.

This User Guide should always be free – if somebody is making you pay for it, report them to the Petable team, please – they wrote it to go along with their free HUD and as a beginners guide to the turtles.

2. Generations Explained (Advanced)

Generations 150 Written by Goldenstar, this notecard and a texture poster are an attempt to explain generations to Petable newbies. The notecard is available free on clicking at Goldenstar’s shop/stall (and others) at the Turtle Xchange Market & Orphanage, and has been sent out through various turtle groups in-world.Find the Generations Explained posters – they come in various textures and colours. Click it to get the informational notecard.

Just a note – the notecard has some grammar mistakes, but importantly, the subject of generations will always be debated. In an attempt to meet some of this debate, there is now a Generations Explained Advanced Notecard where there are no generations past four, and anything past this is being called Generations X or Advanced. Make sure you pick up the Advanced notecards for this information, dated October 11th.

Informational Note : Petable Turtles have no generations within the breeding program, and with the release of several ‘special’ turtles onto the market, the generations were muddied. We know that the first turtles – which came from the starter packs, are labelled as Gen 1 and are recognisable as they have Petable within the surname. We can follow through to Gen 2 with Petable as grandparents, but from there it becomes muddy. The subject of generations is important to those of us who want to breed out enough generations to obtain a shine value in an egg / turtle – feasibly from Generation 4 (or Generation Advanced onwards).

3. Colors, Glow and Poker Hand Guide – Poster or HUD

Color, Glow, Poker Hand for Turtles 150 This large graphic, by Honest Pets and Supply, is available for sale from Honest Pet stalls, for L$10. You can get the texture as either a hud to wear, or a big poster texture.

Or you could go around several other stall holders within Second Life, who have purchased this and put up the poster, and take a read of it yourself. The guide quickly explains percentage of glow and the poker hands of cards which you’ll need in your turtle breeding programs to arrive at those glow percentages.

4. Petable Turtle User Guide (Intellibook)

User Guide - Moo Money This user guide was written by Moo Money, and is available free through various stalls at turtle markets. You wear it as a hud, and open the pages out to read. The book includes some good advice towards food, rare genes and some resources. The Version I have – Version 1, may now need updating with further information, but it forms a good basis to start with.

5. Petable Turtle Egg Information Textures

Turtle egg colours150 This texture poster (left) was sent out as a gift from The Boxed Turtle to subscribers quite recently, but you will also be able to spot it on a few shop wallAbout Turtle Eggs - Mairead Fitzgerald 150s throughout the grid. Created by Emmalyne Navara, the simple texture will show you what bits of the egg (shell, spots or stripes) mean to the actual turtle.

Or you can pick up a free copy of this one (right), created by Mairead Fitzgerald at the central area for The Turtle Bay Market.

6. Colour Charts

Colour Wheels - Trance Moonites 150 You may find this long colour chart showing Hex, Vector and RGB colour conversions around various spot in Second Life. This large poster is available for sale at L$75 from Trance Moonites at the Techno Chicks Pet Shop at Better Farmers Market.
