Petable Turtles | In Pursuit of the Birthstone

by AuntyAudrie on February 8, 2010

This is our image of our February Birthstone turtle. We’ve been blessed – or cursed (depending on how you look at it) this month so far, with the arrival of not one, but four February birthstones. Blessed, because there are still frustrated people out there who only have one, or none – as yet. We completely understand that frustration also. But cursed also – because all of ours are males.

Last month Pacific resorted to going out and purchasing a January birthstone because without it, this blog would have not upheld some of its own missions. We are collectors here, we don’t sell our breedables. But what would this blog be without the ability to collect each of the special turtles we were writing about? January sped on, and we sometimes cursed the announcements from people towards getting a January birthstone. We began to fret, and stress over watching our eggs being hatched, we began to worry, and plan towards whether we could seriously continue to breed our turtles, and therefore blog about them. Afterall, we had never got a New Years turtle, and we have never been blessed with a Super turtle from our own small group of turtles. Statistically, the odds were very much against us.

On the same day Pacific purchased – at a considerable amount – a Garnet birthstone egg, one arrived in our own barn. It was a gold. That was on a Friday, only two days before the end of the month. Oddly, we also got two more on the last day also – silvers. The next day with the switchover of the month, we got our first February birthstone. That’s his picture above.

Since then, there was a large gap of five days before the next birthstone arrived, then we got two in the same clutch  – different parents.

All of our birthstones this month are male. This means that we can’t breed them as a pair, and therefore increase our chances for the March birthstone.

Although it’s still young in the month, with another twenty days of breeding, we again find ourselves being a little worried about our collection. Offers to trade our males for a female have so far met deaf ears. We understand the feelings involved with some people and their frustrations that some are getting multiples and others aren’t getting any. We have been in both places, and still understand that feeling where you watch over that egg extractor ring every half an hour in the hope of seeing some white text above an egg.We have outlayed a lot of money to increase our own special turtles stock to make sure our chances have increased, but we, along with everybody else out there, are at the whim of a random turtle god that is the Petable server and code. We know that feeling well, and also the relief that comes when you see that white text.

So, given our own luck (and misfortune in getting all males) we just wanted to celebrate the specialness of this little guy. His image is now up on our Petable Turtle gallery here at The Chicken Diaries. We remain excited to see who gets a gold or platinum in the future, and whether our male will ever find a mate, or continue his own journey alone. That’s what this game is all about.

Wishing you all your own luck in getting a Birthstone too.
