Petable Turtles | Turtle Village and the TurtleCarton

by AuntyAudrie on September 8, 2009

Today I explored the Turtle Village – which contains rentable market stalls for Petable Turtles and accessories,  including the now released ‘TurtleCarton’ – a turtle boxing system byExpress Zenovka, and several other stores selling eggs, turtles and the new accessories and tools out. I took a close look at the TurtleCarton and several other offerings at this turtle marketplace.

The TurtleCarton

The TurtleCarton

The TurtleCarton is the first one out for boxing turtles within the secondary market, pipping to the post the one now available at The Boxed Turtle (see next entry).

It uses a normal prim object, and you need to put the script in, then you can add in the actual turtle in it’s own box (the fence-like design available free via the Petable Turtle Hud). The carton system gives a bonus of allowing a 1 prim object, and shows data on how long the turtle has been boxed for.

Although to my way of thinking, this isn’t as simple as actually just using the supplied turtle boxes from Petables (which are free) (Pacific’s Note – Aunty Audrie is now showing her age here, and is against technology in many respects), the TurtleCarton system has the capability of creating any type of 1 prim object to contain your turtle – you can obviously colour this as you need (to promote the turtle colours also?). An example turtle boxed up in the TurtleCarton system is on display at a stall at Turtle Village also – you can see that this particular turtle is in a swirly merangue designed prim, obviously leaning towards the shell shape of a turtle.

A demo box sent to Pacific also shows that the boxing system is good at statistics delivery also. Click the prim and a menu offers you a choice of Status, Appearance or Lineage statistics on the turtle. The TurtleCarton prim also colours itself to the turtles colouring. From the creator comes the following information -

Express Zenovka: the TurtleCarton doesn’t shape the prims at all — unless they have fewer than 3 sides (spheres + sculpties, basically).
[10:56]  Express Zenovka: if it doesn’t have 3 sides, it converts to a cylinder. and for all of em, it just tries to color each side with one of the 3 colors till it runs of out sides.
[10:57]  Express Zenovka: so you can end up with swirls, boxes, cylinders, etc.

At The Turtle Village there are two market stalls holding boxed turtles using the TurtleCarton boxing system. The first offers a contorted prim for the turtle, the next – Turtle Farm – has done something different with the TurtleCarton system, having designed up a container or can with labeling, and a top lid containing the turtle (with the teal colouring from the boxing system).

If you mouse over both boxes you will be told that the turtles have been boxed using the TurtleCarton V1.0 system. However as they are both set for sale, clicking the boxes will simply bring up the selling window. You will need to Right Click and select Touch to get at the statistics on these particular custom turtle boxes, but the statistics are there for your selection process when buying turtles.

The ability to create your own turtle prim and display the turtle however you like makes the TurtleCarton a definate must-see.

More From Turtle Village

From the same vendor you can pick up a turtle locator – for free. This helps locate lost turtles and eggs. Turtle Village and the Turtle Locator

At another stall, owned by Stora Zhora, you can purchase the Turtle Shower – yes a shower for your turtle. I’m not sure if it does keep them happier, but it looks pretty.

A couple of turtle enthusiasts I happen to know also have some goods available at Turtle Village. Firstly I’ll stop by Shelly Macchi’s Ye Olde Egg Shoppe stall where she is not only selling my favourite – the Petable Turtle shoulder pet, but a new device, an egg timer. The timer sits beside boxed turtles and provides text statistics on how long the turtles have been boxed (remembering that they can only survive without food for five days).

And then I took a look at the habitat vendor that Emmalyne Navarathna has there. She has an interesting looking dojo habitat at only 8 prims, and a very yellow turtle baby crib.

The market, although still relatively empty, already has a good lot of stalls selling accessories – habitats and tools, for the Petable Turtles. There is already a free turtle goodie box available, holding the Petable Turtle Hud, and some turtle-appropriate toys.

And scattered around the stalls, as some of my pictures show, there are both eggs and turtles for sale. As I’ve not yet managed to breed a pink egg, I purchased one there. I also took a nice looking apple green egg – not quite the yellow eggs that some people are suggesting they’ve managed to get, but closer than I ever have with my small breeding experiment in turtles.

I’ll visit back to Turtle Village often, to see the stalls filling, and what I can pick up there.

Note : The initial post for this entry held errors due to not having a demonstration available and therefore not understanding the way statistics are provided by the TurtleCarton system. We would like to thank the creator Express for their help in correcting the information on this turtle boxing system graciously. Both Aunty Audrie and PacificBlue endevour to report on correct information and if you do spot errors, please do tell us. We’ll put it right as soon as possible for you.
