I love a few things today. Steampunk Furniture, Black and White outfits, tribal skins, futuristic hair and a wearable turtle. So here’s a random combination for you.
Steampunk Goodness
I love steampunk furniture but often it’s a little too primmy for me to include permanently within my own decor. That doesn’t stop me from returning time and time again to Julia Collection to take a look around. And Julia Collection does some most excellent hunt gifts also – which is the reason I re-visited today.
There is a hunt going on at The Julia Collection this month – the Tainted Love Hunt. If you find the broken heart, you will be gifted with this big bleeding heart alter thing. A bit gruesome, yeah…but quite relevant to the feelings involved for some with the upcoming Valentines Day.
But I, and Black, are most excited about next month, when Steam II is back as a hunt. Of course – Julia Collection is participating in that hunt also. So we’ll be back for more steampunk goodness.

Black and White Goodness
I finally got around to changing my outfit this week. I lately have had the bad habit of being distracted by my breedable animals second life side, and literally ‘forgotten’ to change my clothes for days if not weeks on end. But I took a TP into Coco earlier this week, and bought up lots of new goodness.
My outfit is completely COCO, actually. And my companion is a wearable Petable Turtle – this is an actual Petable Turtle I have wondering around at home – her facsimile is on my shoulder. She’s a January Birthstone turtle in silver this time, and blends into my hair.

Tribal Goodness
Now, I have been wearing my new black&whites with a more normal skin – But recently I’ve also been feeling a personal call to return to my own real life routes more often. Perhaps it’s because it’s coming up to my own first rezz day, and therefore the origins of my own second life. Some who read my profile may work out that I am, in actual fact, a kiwi who happens to live in Great Britain in my real life. But not only am I a New Zealander, but I in large part, a Maori. Hence my curly hair for a start (which I also have in Second Life).
I have a small collection of kiwi-ana found within SL, which includes a few body tattoos, and some traditional Maori woven skirts and accessories, but this is my newest find – from Terra’s Bodyart. I actually was introduced to Terra’s work via Winter Jefferson’s blog about some of the skins there. In that blog, Terra’s tribal skins and cyborg skins were profiled.
To me, the tribal skins held a few recognisable polynesian motifs, but not a lot of very obvious traditional Maori graphics. But I went to take a closer look, and settled not on the tribal skins, which are based on dark skin tones, but on the one you see on me today.
This skin is entitled Full_Boy_Tribal_Tattoo_V01, and comes in dark or paler skin tones. It’s a full body tattoo, but you get to see only the hands and face on me. The moku tattoo under the mouth, and blue tattooed lips particularly are reminiscent of some traditional Maori tattoos, as are the upper thigh treatments on this particular skin. There are also other polynesian elements in the skin – many are shared across the islands. But as with the haka - a war chant designed to scare off your enemy (most recognisable nowadays whilst in use with the national rugby team, the All Blacks), the tribal tattoos and particularly those on the face, are designed to be scary. And I do believe I look quite fearsome in this ensemble today also.
Yes, I know that the juxtaposition between a full tribal skin and the somewhat business-attire look of my Coco ensemble could be quite jarring, but I like it right now. It’s Friday goodness.
Finally, as another juxatoposition – Terra actually exhibited her cyborg skins via the Greenie’s 2010 The Future is Now event. And from that event, I picked up the futuristic hairstyle I’m wearing – this is by Exile and is called Laya. It comes with plaits and fiber optic attachments. I’ve been wearing it for weeks, complete with the fiber optics, and my turtle matches it. I hope.
