SL House & Gardens | Six Good Skyboxes

by PacificBlue on February 2, 2010

You should have worked out by now that I’m a skybox freek in Second Life. I collect them like I used to collect stamps as a little girl. They get filed away until we come up with some new challenge to furnish them, and these are well worth furnishing.

I have a couple of free ones, and four very cheap ones – all found today, and available to pick up.

Kabi’s Cafe

I saw these blogged elsewhere and went to have a look. Kabi’s Cafe is Japanese, and I really took some time to look around before finding the actual wall of free stuff. You can teleport up to the bar to see the second of these in situ also. Both are small (around the ten by ten size) but ample for affecting a very good scene, or even spending some urban time chillin’.

While you’re there, also take a look at the two free chairs – a small wooden chair and a bar stool.

Skybox City 1

This is a seemingly simple box, with some nice baked textures, particularly the sunset cityscape out the large windows. Two levels, with a steel grid ramp. On the opposite side there is an actual zigzag window looking out at – whatever is out there.

12 Prims. No mod. Free.

Skybox City 2

An inner city rooftop deck, possibly Tokyo? The rooftop is surrounded by mesh wire fencing, although this is broken in one part, and you can actually walk up the slate roof outside. Overlooking a great city nightscape, whilst overlooked by an old red brick apartment.

28 Prims, no Mod. Free.

Valentine’s Bazaar

There is currently a Valentine’s Bazaar running. Although willing to avoid anything valentines, I must admit that there are some good finds there. Including three Skyboxes from Sugar.Snap.Me and a Sky Veranda also. Everything at the Bazaar is selling for L$50, but one of these boxes is half of that price.

Sugar.Snap.Me – Choco Yum Yum

This skybox, featuring a small room and windowed conservatory / porch, is decorated with Parisian type women in wall-art and a few big red hearts.

30 Prims, L$25, No Modify, No copy.

Sugar.Snap.Me – Le Fleur by Mar

Two rooms, featuring crooked windows with forest textures. 9 Drop Lightbulbs in one room, a large old lampshade int he other. Crystal wall art.

35 Prims, L$50, No Modify, No Copy

Sugar.Snap.Me – Lollipop by Mar

Three rooms, featuring a wintry forest scene in the windows. The rooms are raised in three levels, with a brick divider to the third. These large rooms would be quite workable if not for the large lollipops decorating one level. Still, if you’re after some lollipops…

55 Prims, L$50, No Modify, No Copy.

Not So Shabby – Sky Veranda

(I stuck this on the ground, not in the sky – but you get the picture).

Three levels again to this open plan room and veranda arrangement. This one features a checkered patio at the middle level, a large windowed room at the back, and of course – the veranda. There is some nice texture work on the glass walls – heavily bobbled on some, and white stylistic sanded glass on two sides for some privacy.

Put out some patio furniture in urban black and white and you’ll be enjoying your margarita’s al fresco while enjoying a Second Life sunset every four hours.

Because it is so transparent, I would suggest that you either set this out somewhere where there’s some decent views, or completely in the sky, away from some other skyboxes.

30 Prims, L$50, Modify and Copy.
