I’m not a proper female in the fact that I don’t actually have a great thing for shoes – not in Real Life, nor in Second Life. Don’t get me wrong – I like a good shoe, provided it sets off the outfit, but I don’t collect shoes or covet them.
Props and Poses are another thing altogether. So, I went off to the Shoe Expo, not to particular see some new shoes, but to check out what was being offered by the props and pose creators displaying at the event.
The Expo Itself
Firstly, as with any fair or large event in Second Life, expect and prepare for lag. I visited on the second day at 1:30am in the morning, and still had copious lag. This actually eased as my GMT morning wore on, and the U.S. based residents logged off.
Despite being forewarned, every avatar I saw was dressed in prims and hair, including myself at that time of the day. In fact, the Expo is decorated in seasonal snow, with different creative snowmen around – so most people I saw were dressed also for the season, in Ug boots and sweaters mainly.
Spend some time at the Expo, and eventually the posters and vendors, shoes on display and shops will rez in for you. There are indeed some interesting shoes there, which I’m sure you will see blogged over regularly as the Expo’s fortnight wears on.
Flickr Competition
The Footwear Expo is holding a photography competition which has a LOT of photographic prizes available to the winner, from a PhotoLife system, photo stands, huds, poses etc. There is a display of these prizes in the West of the expo itself. The Flickr Group URL is posted below.
The Contest Details
Anyone may enter the contest, with as many pictures as they like, wearing any shoes that they like. The shoes should be the focus of the picture. As an added twist this year, in order for a photo to qualify, it must also represent the winter wonderland/holiday theme of the fair. Please read all rules and limitations.
- of all entries one photo will be selected as the winner of this year’s SL Footwear Expo Flickr contest

The prize package for one lucky winner includes items from Tillie Ariantho, Dove Swanson [LAP], and Serenity Mercier’s AMS PhotoStage.
Maitreya Poses
Maitreya not only has a shoe store at the expo but a pose store also. 50% of the proceeds for any sales goes to the Expo charity – Toys for Tots. The Poses store constains several animated modeling poses.
Slash Me Poses
A percentage of all sales proceeds will go to Toys for Tots. Slash Me Poses already had some shoe poses available before the expo, and I put myself onto the ‘Like My Shoes?’ pose stand to demo these.
Just a note here though, as somebody took my photo on the stand without asking me, so should I accidentally turn up as a Fugly example – the trousers I was wearing only came in a pants option which meant they weren’t made bootcut, so couldn’t adjust the new ugh boots correctly for the display (well, without trying to find an appropriate new pant out of my inventory and risking going naked in front of everyone).
Long Awkward Poses
LAP has a few new feet-themed poses out for the expo. There is a sexy couples one set in a chair, and the 10 pack of ‘Foot Focus’ poses for the feet on one single body static pose. Another couples set completes the look. Genereously, 100% of the sales revenue go to the Expo cause.
Reel Expression
Paying a percentage on all sales, there was a wide range of poses displayed by Reel Expression, including the stair prop and two different sets of shoe poses, one entitled ‘Shoe Fair’
Olive Juice
Olive Juice also is donating a percentage of all sales to the Expo cause, and has a good display of poses for showing off shoes, and two sets of poses exclusive to the Footwear Expo only – ‘dorks love shoes too’ and ‘my saxy shoes’ The later set comes in a short avi format also.
ANA-Mations
ANA-Mation has a whole set of static action poses for the skaters amongst us. But to top those off, there is also a large range of roller skates to buy, hightops and boots - which come with a ZHAO II based interface with the AOs to skate. And 100% of those sales go to Toys for Tots.
Striking Poses
Striking Poses created several new sets for the Expo. More details available on their blog. In the meantime I kind of like their ‘Tickled Feet II Chubby Collection’, which comes with a free bath to pose in, and ‘Chubby I’ which features four poses on chairs, good for group shots.
Diesel Works
Diesel Works also has a display at the Footwear Expo, and all sales pay a percentage to Toys for Tots.
aDORKable Poses
Adorkable also pays a percentage of all sales to the expo charity. And for those with a true shoe fetish, how about the ‘Pump It Up‘ prop – a giant shoe which comes with three poses.
