As a blogger, but also as somebody who would like to take better photography within Second Life, I have to admit to two infatuations within my own Second Life -

Today, I’ll introduce you to my Props and Poses habit, and to some props from Lear Photo Equipment.
Ideally, I would like to not only be a writer in second life (which I am) but also run a photography business. I love taking photographs, but know I have a lot to learn in honing the craft. Being a blogger brings me the best of both worlds – not only do I get to write about Second Life, but I also get to play around with setting up modeling shots, and I own a fair few props and poses accordingly.
I am, without one doubt, a Props & Poses Junkie. I seek them out everywhere, and anytime I get a sniff of free furniture, or poses, I’m on it like a shot. I have a huge inventory of the stuff, and love it when I discover new photography accessories, whether free or commercial.
I’ve now created a new category on The Chicken Diaries blog to share with you all of my own resources and discoveries on how to better my own photography skills, and provide hopefully some good modelling shots for you.
Lear Photography Equipment
Today I’ll start off with a new discovery of mine – Lear Photography, owned by Liz Loordes and Allen Ewing. The large Lear store provides not only quite a few poses, but many set props to purchase. If you TP up to the upper balcony you can also temp-rez out the eight or so full prefab photography studios Lear sells. All of these made my mouth water, and I was tempted to just go buy one of the smaller studios and some commercial land, and set myself up.
Items from the photography studios can be purchased separately also. Lear has some large blank canvases for putting in sample photography, and a large camera to put on top of your building should you wish. And I especially love the silver larger-than-life manikins which stand or sit in various poses holding up more blank canvases for photography samples.
On the ground floor you will find Lear’s many prop sets. These range from chairs with poses, to a swish sports car, a couple of scooters, a jail room (details image), a large set of steps, some hanging ornamental frames (details image), a tree stump, brick walls (details image), and a very cool building beam (feature image).
Most props come with one – six or more inbuilt poses, some for couples, some for singles, and some of the larger ones can hold groups in various poses, using posing balls. The posing balls can be made invisible when not used with a chat command. All prop sets come with Mod and Transfer permissions, but not copy.Prop prices range from a few hundred lindens to a couple of thousand depending on size and poses. Studios, props and poses are also available on xStreet, with the Crack Photo Studio (which would be Cyber Puss’s choice in photo studios) currently on special via this outlet.
The prop set I purchased (twice) is a set of alphabets. I needed to buy two sets, as without copy I couldn’t make up my sample word for you. There is also a set of numbers at Lear. Each letter in the set comes with one poseball. So, you can set out any word you want and get a group of avatars posing on them for a nice group shot. Here, my example image shows my alternative side of me, Cyber Puss, as she sits on her name for you.
