SL Props & Poses | Pocket Gardens

Pocket Gardens – Castalia 11×11 demo garden

During October I started noticing that what I considered excellent photographic props were being used as full-on decorative accents for certain SL Places. For instance, quite a few of the halloween-themed larger scenes I collected for my own photographic tasks were making an appearance as halloween decorations for several chicken and turtle market sims out there.

This provided a bonus for anybody browsing through those markets. Not only were the markets sporting a halloween theme, but because they were scene props which included multiple poses, they provided market goers with some photo opportunities too.

Turning this around, I began pondering what normal home or perhaps garden furnishings could become excellent props for those looking for photographic scenes. They may not strictly be sold as photographic props, but they could work just as successfully as those.

The first lot out of the box are the beautiful and extremely workable Pocket Gardens.

Garden scenes aren’t a new idea. There is one of them available from La Petite Morte, and I’ve encountered others over time.

But Pocket Gardens produce full-on little miniature garden builds or prefabs (prefab landscaping) – marketed to those who don’t have the space or inclination to put together a larger patch of virtual earth. And they come with custom poses already contained within the garden scenes.

The gradens are created by Stormy Aluveaux and Carter Denja, and can be found at two stores in-world or XStreet. Pocket Gardens is also supported by a blog. (SLurls and URLs below).

Pocket Gardens prefabs come in several small sizes, the smaller versions are sized to fit onto balconies for skyboxes or apartments, for instance. The gardens themselves are lovely, adding an out-of-the-box garden for those who can’t create or live with a large garden at their second life home. Not only for those on skyboxes with a balcony perhaps, but for people like me who currently live on a themed region (in my respect, a tropical island) but are looking for a patch of proper garden to sit out in, maybe even a flower garden which you normally wouldn’t find on a tropical beach.

There are currently four gardens available from Pocket Gardens, ranging in size from 3×3 metres up to one which comes in three sizes including 13×13 meters. All also offer sitting or posing animations inside the garden scene, ground-texture changes, and are copyable.

Better yet, the newest is currently available free as a subscription gift, so get there quick to pick this up for yourself.

Castalia

Pocket Gardens - castalia s 1

This one comes in some large sizes, making it excellent as a permanent fixture for a piece of waterfall spendour. It also comes in some small packages if you have less room. With a ready-made waterfall and reading book inviting you to lie beside the pond, this one is absolutely covettable.

Three sizes are available for Castalia – 8×8 – 30 prims; 11×11 – 46 prims; and 13×13 – 60 prims. As with Thalia, there are menu-driven ground textures and colour themes.

Castalia contains birdsong, environment sounds which change with the time of day, and a waterfall sound. There is an optional mega-prim base and hedge to surround the garden should you wish.

There are two sit poses in all sizes – a log sit and ground sit. Additionally, the medium Castalia contains a book with a sit animation. The large Castalia garden contains additional features – a beam of light (toggle between sunlight and moonlight), a lamppost, and a fourth sit animation in a waterfall rock.

Mood : Blue

Pocket Gardens - Mood - Blue

Only one size for this small garden in moody shades of lilac blue. Very peaceful. Mood : Blue was originally offered as a subscribe-o-matic gift, but is now for sale. At only 11 prims it offers moody blue colourways, and two sit poses. The ground texture can be changed via a menu also.

Despite and Still

Pocket Gardens - Flowers - Despite and Still

Brand new out, and yet to become available in larger sizes, this urban grungy garden scene is currently available free as a subscribo gift, at a tiny 3 meters by 3 meters size. Even so, there’s room to sit in two places.

Despite and Still is only 14 prims, which includes the tire, drum, and flowers growing through asphalt or shingle. The ground-texture changes and there are three sit poses in the tire or barrel. Oh, and there’s a creature snuck away in there too.

Thalia

Pocket Gardens - thalia-small-1

Thalia comes in three different sizes (5×5 – 30 prims; 5×10 – 44 prims; and 10×10 – 58 prims), and three parts – the garden, a garden base (optional) and the hedge prim. A fatpack of all three sizes is available for L$800. The garden works with menu controls – change and choose from three colour themes and six ground textures – including an alpha ground to let your own show through.

The bench includes a couple of sit poses for couples. And Thalia comes with birdsong (which eminates from a bird in the scene) and environmental sounds.

There’s a reasonably large display garden out on the entrance deck at Pocket Garden’s mainstore. Romantic and also, comes with seated pose.
